Welcome to
Books@Cafe, your one stop shop for great titles, awesome music, delicious
coffee, and mouth-watering food. Situated in the heart of Jabal Amman,
Books@Cafe started off with a bold dream: a hangout for people of all ages,
interests, and backgrounds; a cosy atmosphere with no restrictions - a home
away from home.
The dream was
conceived during the 90's cultural draught; a time where "couples-only" was the
unanimous policy among cafe owners in Amman;
English book titles cost an arm and a leg; and public internet access spots
were hard to find.
As the Al-Jazirah
brothers stood in front of an old villa down Rainbow Street, the dream saw the light:
less than perfect, vague, and fuzzy - but a start.
In 1997,
Books@Cafe opened its doors for business: an ultra-chic renovated villa
sandwiched between the serenity of Rainbow
Street and the hustle and bustle of Down Town
Amman.
Providing
internet access, affordable books, and coffee refills, Books@Cafe became home
for writers, musicians, artists, coffee lovers, and students from all over the
country; where various pioneer activities saw the light during the draught:
bookclubs, discussion groups, concerts, and exhibitions.
Today, over a
decade of continuous service, Books@Cafe has expanded featuring two spacious
courtyards, five main rooms, an alternative bookstore, and free WiFi.
Books@cafe grows with its 40 plus staff members, thousands of customers; adapting
the fair trade principles that make our service unique.
The dream lives
on, as the two brothers stand in front of... but that's a story for a different
day.
Welcome to
Books@Cafe, the only place you're guaranteed a smile in Amman!
